Who loves to take in an Off Broadway show? In our house we always make time to see as many shows as we can during the year. Every year something special happens in the Off Broadway world- It’s called 20at20 and it’s a perfect time to go to the shows at an affordable price. From March 28th – April 16th you can pick up tickets at over thirty of the hottest NYC Off Broadway shows for just $20 a ticket. The tickets become available at 20 minutes before show time. Now, I already know what you are thinking, “Oh, I’ll never get tickets at twenty minutes before show time”, but that is not true. Our family has gone to quite a few shows during 20@20 and have never been shut out. It’s not to say it has not happened, but it has never happened to us personally. When you visit http://20at20.com/shows/ you can check out all the shows that take part in 20at20, age limitations, if they approve of late seating and more about the show! Spring time is the perfect time for a show! We have highlighted four of our favorites, but there are quite a few more to choose from.

20at20squarebubbleThe unPOPable Gazillion Bubble Show, now in its incrediBUBBLE 10th year in New York City, is the most unbubblievable show in the world! After twenty years as a Master of Bubbles, in 2007 Fan Yang brought his unique brand of bubble artistry to the Big Apple and has since wowed bubble lovers of all ages. The Gazillion Bubble Show truly is a family affair for Fan: his wife Ana, son Deni, daughter Melody, and brother Jano all can be found on stage in New York and around the world performing their bubble magic. Audiences are delighted with an unbubblievable experience, awashed with a bubble tide, and some even find themselves INSIDE a bubble. Mind-blowing bubble magic, spectacular laser lighting effects, and momentary soapy masterpieces will make you smile, laugh, and feel like a kid again. This is a show you can see over and over with friends and family. If you do attend there is an extra fee to get your picture inside a bubble. It is so worth and a memory that will last a lifetime!

20at20squarelionThe Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe is a classic. In this inventive and highly theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ classic, two actors give a tour-de-force performance that’s sure to delight children and adults alike. Through the magic of theatre, Peter and Lucy will take you to Narnia, where The White Witch has cast a spell that makes it always winter and never Christmas. See them meet Mr. Tumnus the faun and conspire with talking animals to save Narnia. Come face to face with Aslan the Great Lion and cheer as Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmund courageously battle the forces of evil, discovering that Love is the deepest magic of all. Open to everyone, most suitable for ages 5 and up.

20at20squarestompSTOMP! It’s been my sons’ favorite forever! They will never turn down a chance to catch this Off Broadway gem!  A while back our family got a sneak peek at the beginning of DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby and absolutely loved it! You are really in store for some fun with this one. Both parents and kids are going to laugh throughout the film. I am beyond thrilled to be able to invite readers of 3decades3kids to a super advance screening of the movie. DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby.  He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby.  The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim.  With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.  http://www.dreamworks.com/thebossbaby/

Directed by: Tom McGrath

Written by: Michael McCullers (based on the award-winning picture book by Marla Frazee)

Cast: Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Miles Bakshi

Netflix #StreamTeam: Celebrating Great Female Role Models

Studies have shown that girls as young as six are influenced by gender stereotypes, and that role models from the entertainment they choose can have a lasting effect. For those of us with little girls, this message is certainly an important one, and with International Women’s Day observed this month around the world, we’re proud to say that Netflix is home to girls who mean business. That’s something all kids can get behind! Whether it’s Violet’s quick wit, Elena’s activist mentality, or Deidra & Laney’s unorthodox thinking, there’s something for every girl to relate to– and strong female characters aren’t just important for girls! Boys are growing up with Eleven saving the crew and Tip showing that true friendship knows no bounds.

From some of Em’s favorites like Dragons: Race to the Edge and Project Mc² to some of my guys’ must-watches like Marvel’s Jessica Jones, and family favorite A Series of Unfortunate Events, some of our top picks across Netflix all feature women and girls who aren’t afraid to stand up and be strong. What girl-power-driven Netflix shows are you watching this month? We’ve got some suggestions below for ones you can start in on right now!

Whether it’s in the classroom, Troll Market or Hawkins Lab Netflix is bringing a whole new definition of girl power to the table.

6 GIFs, 6 moments where girls stole the spotlight on Netflix. When it comes to saving the day, these girls don’t need an extra hand.

This month, Julie Andrews makes her Netflix debut in Julie’s Greenroom. Brought to life by the Jim Henson Company, the enriching show advocates for the arts and the positive impact creativity can have on every child’s life. With an array of very special guests (Idina Menzel, Sara Bareilles and Alec Baldwin to name a few), Julie’s Greenroom might be a show you turn on for the kids but find yourself staying until the final curtain call.
