Full of wonder and adventure, The House With a Clock in its Walls mesmerizes audiences of all ages and keeps the magic alive when stars Jack Black (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Kung Fu Panda), Cate Blanchett (Ocean’s 8, Thor: Ragnarok) and Owen Vaccaro (Daddy’s Home, Mother’s Day) arrive as Uncle Jonathan, Mrs. Zimmerman and Lewis Barnavelt. In the most unexpected places, fantastical events, miraculous twists and suspense filled moments ensue in this “zany kids adventure” (The Hollywood Reporter) that soon captivates adults as well. In the tradition of Amblin classics, master frightener and director Eli Roth’s The House With a Clock in its Walls is a family-friendly fantasy film that “stands alongside the ‘just for kids’ classics of the 1980’s and 1990’s” (Forbes).

In The House With a Clock in its Walls directed by Eli Roth (The Green InfernoCabin Fever), Lewis Barnavelt (Vaccaro) goes to live with his Uncle Jonathan (Black) in a creaky and creepy mansion with an eerie tick-tocking heart. But when Lewis soon finds out he’s in the presence of magic practiced by his uncle and neighbor Mrs. Zimmerman (Blanchett), his new town’s dreary aura boosts to life in an exciting and dangerous way. Based on the beloved children’s classic book written by John Bellairs and illustrated by Edward Gorey, The House With a Clock in its Walls is written by Eric Kripke (creator of TV’s “Supernatural”) and co-stars Kyle MacLachlan (“Twin Peaks,” Inside Out), Colleen Camp (Clue), Renée Elise Goldsberry (“One Life to Live”), and Sunny Suljic (Mid90s, The Killing of a Sacred Deer). It is produced by Mythology Entertainment’s Brad Fischer (Shutter Island) and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), as well as Kripke.

Overcooked!2 For Nintendo Switch Review #HolidayGiftGuide

Overcooked!2 For Nintendo Switch Review

Recently our family had the chance to check out Overcooked!2 for Nintendo Switch. We already are obsessed with Overcooked! so we could not wait to see if the second one lived up! This gamer family gave it a big thumbs up within the first fifteen minutes of play. If you are looking for a great game, rated E for everyone, you can look no farther.

With it’s fast gameplay and adorable cast of characters, Overcooked 2 makes for an enjoyable experience that the whole family can take part in. With up to four players either locally or online, the cooking action never ends as players whip up a variety of food orders across a selection of different kitchens! In Overcooked 2, players are found once again in the Onion Kingdom with new ways to cook, and even crazier gaming scenarios than before. The game features an entertaining story that is sure to keep the family laughing throughout.

Upon watching the opening cutscene, the audience is introduced to the Necro-NomNom-Icon, which holds the secret to “everlasting culinary greatness.” However, when the book is used, the Unbread rise from their resting place, creating a new trouble in the land. The game’s setup is pretty straightforward and similar to the first in the series, but it has enough new content to keep players engaged. New foods and settings have been added to the game, changing up the formula for play. Additional game mechanics can be found in Overcooked 2 that were absent from the original, specifically the ability to throw dishes across surfaces. Now with this functionality in the game, it’s become much easier to slide orders between players and complete orders even faster than before. The original Overcooked was a couch co-op experience that was nothing short of outstanding, and the sequel works even harder to build on what already made for such an enjoyable experience.

Each mission in Overcooked 2 operates on a timer where players must complete a given amount of orders before the clock runs out in the bottom right of the screen. The game’s art style is interesting, and emphasizes the fast-paced movement of the game. The characters will waddle around between counters while making orders in a rush, carrying large stacks of plates in their arms. Overcooked 2’s set pieces are also something not worth overlooking, as the environments look beautiful and fit the overall tone of the experience. The wacky characters must run between platforms that often move, complicating tasks and adding another challenge into the tasks, to complete orders. Portals, conveyor belts, and full kitchen pieces shift around and vary gameplay, keeping the experience from ever feeling the same.

The game has a giant emphasis on co-operative play. All 40+ levels can be completed either solo, where one player controls multiple chefs, or in multiplayer where the family can take on different roles in the process. The addition of online multiplayer in the game also adds a lot of replay value, as the experience is not just limited to couch co-op play. Overcooked 2 works hard to create a unique experience with an extreme attention for teamwork gameplay, and it is most definitely a stand-out multiplayer game for the Nintendo Switch. In Overcooked 2, there is always some new challenge to face, and always a ton of co-operative fun to be had, either online or with your friends at home! Starlink: Battle for Atlas -A Perfect Gift This Holiday Season- PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch #HolidayGiftGuide

Starlink: Battle for Atlas -A Perfect Gift This Holiday Season- PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch- Holiday Gift Guide Feature Game!

There are games and then there are games that kids love to play. When you walk into any place that sells video games you can find the walls lined with titles that all look incredible. But how do you know which one will get played with over and over. It’s tough to shell out the money and find out three hours later that your child has absolutely no interest in the game you purchased them. Been there more than once! I think it’s really important to check out the video game as much as you can before buying it.

Recently our family was introduced to a great game for tweens! How do I know it’s a great game for tweens…well, I have a tween and she is a total gamer girl. Now that does not say that this game is for girls. I also have two sons that are older and they both did play the game with Emily and loved it! What I loved about the game is that it is exciting yet not crazy. It’s perfect for tweens that want the older gaming feel but are still a little too young for it.

Since we already have the game in our house obviously I cannot buy it for Emily for Christmas but when it comes to getting a gift for some other family members and video games are involved my daughter and both sons agree that this is a perfect choice. You can check out our in depth review of  Starlink: Battle for Atlas here.

The more you play this game the more you will love it! Of course Mom took a turn, or maybe a few turns. Moms love it, too! It’s a great family game and will put a smile on any child’s face this holiday season.
