In our house Tinker Bell is a daily word. We talk about her when we play, watch tv, and color. She has been one of my daughter’s favorites  since before she could even walk and quite honestly, Tinker Bell has always been a favorite of mine. Every time a new movie is about to come out I cannot help but get this little internal pang of excitement. My daughter is jumping for joy at the thought and speculation about the new movie and I cannot wait either. If you have a Tinkerbell fan in your house, you will definitely want this to add to your collection.

SYNOPSIS: Return to Pixie Hollow for a heartwarming adventure, Disney’s Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast. But this creature is not welcome in Pixie Hollow — and the scout fairies are determined to capture the mysterious beast, who they fear will destroy their home. Fawn must convince her fairy friends to risk everything to rescue the NeverBeast. This thrilling action-adventure roars to life with never-before-seen bonus extras on Disney Blu-ray. Love Disney movies? Our family has a huge collection of Disney films. Of course we have all the oldies, but I feel it’s just as important to make the new movies a part of our collection, too. We celebrate weekly with family movie night and most times Disney is the choice. Of course my daughter thinks a Disney movie a day is just what the doctor ordered, so we do spend most nights catching at least half a movie and watching half the next night. You can’t go wrong with a Disney movie in the blu-ray player.

Ten Tips On Hosting Your Disney Side Home Celebration

Ten Tips On Hosting Your Disney Side Home Celebration

disneysidehome  disneysidehome2

This year our family was chosen to host a Disney Side Home Celebration for the second year. Such an exciting moment when that pixie dusted email arrives telling you that you have been chosen by Disney Parks to be a part of the fun. Now, you don’t have to be chosen in order to host a Disney Side Home Celebration. Honestly, we have been hosting them for years without the official name. A Disney Side Home Celebration is just inviting friends over and hosting a Disney themed party. Everyone has a Disney Side, what’s yours?

This year we are still trying to come up with a theme. We have it narrowed down and will announce it very soon when are invitations are ready. In the meantime, if you are looking for some tips on hosting a Disney Side Home Celebration we are here for you. We came up with ten tips on hosting your own party.

Tip 1: Choose a theme for your party. Some people were given a theme, others were not. If you do not have a preselected theme, it’s up to your family to come up with one. You can always choose one of the preselected ones for yourself or think of something original. Last year our theme was Hidden Mickey. It was a great theme and easy to feature at the party. You are welcome to try it if you still haven’t chosen.

Tip 2: Choose a date and send out invitations. Set the size of your party according to what is comfortable for you. Although it says home celebration, some people last year chose to have their party at a school, bowling alley, scout meetup, etc. We will be hosting ours at home again this year. By the way, your invites can be online or hard copy. It’s all up to you.

Tip 3: Do the Disney Side Happy Dance! You were chosen. Don’t stress about what was in your celebration package. There is no comparing if you are showing your true Disney Side. It’s about having fun and being happy. So just accept and enjoy!

Tip 4: Don’t forget about the music! What’s a Disney Side Home Celebration without music? Last year we created a play list on Spotify.com for free with over 200 Disney songs. It was awesome and kept the party going with tunes that everyone knew and some that they have not heard in a long time. Of course you can use your own music. I’m sure you already have some playlists created since your love Disney!

Tip 5: Decide if you will play games at your party. If you decide on games be sure you have the room and all your ducks in order. Check that all the game pieces are there. Check that the directions are clear. Check that everyone will have fun with the games you have chosen. http://family.disney.com/activities

Tip 6: Photo Booths are awesome and easy to make. Be sure to do them in advance. Any box can easy be cut up into a photo booth. Check out some awesome Photo Booth ideas on my Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.com/3decades3kids/disney-photo-booth/

Tip 7: Decide what treats will be served at your party. Check with party guests ahead of time for any special dietary concerns. Create some Disney themed names for the foods depending on your party theme. Example: Snow White’s Non-poisonous apples, Tink’s Pixie Dusted Cookies.

Tip 8: Decorate your party area with home made decorations. Kids love to decorate and really get into it. Last year we made Mickey paper chains, paper flowers , hidden Mickey’s for around the house and more. The decorating is part of the fun!

Tip 9: Decide if you will have goodie bags. We found a ton of fun toys, pens, puzzles all in Target’s dollar zone. They always have Disney themed goodies. If you google Disney low cost favors, you will come up with a zillion places to purchase any theme surprises.

Tip 10: Don’t forget to take lots of pics and video. On party day it may be a good idea to put a friend in charge of pics and video. Sometimes the host can get pretty busy making sure that everything is going as planned and not have time to zone in on pics, let alone video. This year I am passing the torch on this job so I don’t have to worry about it.

We are so looking forward to seeing everyone’s Disney Side Home Celebrations. Big or Small each party will have its own unique Disney magic. It’s all about fun, friends and family….and sharing our love for Disney! What’s your Disney Side? Do you have another tip? Please leave it in the comments section. We are always looking for more tips!

From The Mind of George Lucas Strange Magic In Theaters January 23

Love Blooms As George Lucas

Brings Us Strange Magic

In Theaters January 23rd

strangemagic23group

We all love to be loved don’t we? We all want to be in love? For me it was and is what my entire life revolves around. The love of my life, my hubby of 25 years, the love for my children, family and friends keeps a smile on my face and give me a reason to wake up every morning. When I was asked to preview Strange Magic I basically ran…not walked ot the theater. Although the characters had me a little worried that the movie might be scary for my eight year old daughter I am happy to report they were just fine and some actually became quite lovable. From the mind of George Lucas (and featuring the talents of Evan Rachel Wood, Alan Cumming, and more!) comes Strange Magic— a tale of magic, a tale of misunderstandings, and most of all, a tale of love!

Strange Magic tells the intertwining stories of several fairies, elves, goblins, and other creatures in a mystical forest divided between Darkness and Light. At the center of it are Marianne, a fairy princess who becomes jaded against love after her fiancee Roland is caught cheating, Sunny the elf, a hopeless romantic whose unrequited love for Marianne’s sister Dawn dampens his otherwise cheerful demeanor, and the Bog King, ruler of the dark half of the forest. When the Sugarplum Fairy is set free and a love potion gone wrong joins all the wrong couples together, it’s up to Marianne and Sunny to set things right (while learning a thing or two about love themselves along the way!)

Inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and set to a rollicking soundtrack of popular songs from the last sixty years,Strange Magic is an ode to love like you’ve never seen before. From the film’s opening notes (Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love With You, a personal favorite) to its big finale (a well-placed sequence featuring, among others,  Wild Thing) you’ll be clapping your hands, tapping your toes and singing along as Strange Magic takes you on a wild and exciting ride!

You and your family will definitely love Strange Magic— we sure did! Check it out in theaters starting today, January 23. See you at the movies!

Let’s Chat With Strange Magic Creator George Lucas and Cast @StrangeMagic #StrangeMagic #GeorgeLucas

Let’s Chat With Strange Magic Creator George Lucas and Cast

Recently I had the privilege of attending a Q & A with the cast and crew of Strange Magic– creator George Lucas, director Gary Rydstrom, music director Marius DeVries, and stars Alan Cumming, Evan Rachel Wood, Elijah Kelley, Meredith Anne Bull, and Sam Palladio– and there was plenty to learn about the hard work that went into creating the movie! Pinch me! What an incredible room filled with talent.

George Lucas in particular, who spent fifteen years bringing his vision of Strange Magic to life, had a lot to say about the inspiration behind the film. “What I wanted try to do,” Lucas revealed, “was tell a story using the lyrics of existing songs.” He added that “originally I wanted it to be all music, like an opera”– while that unfortunately didn’t work out, Lucas admitted that “about 75% of it is still music.”

The music of Strange Magic truly is the backbone of the film, and cobbling together a movie that depends so heavily on its songs was certainly no simple task for music director Marius DeVries. According to DeVries, over 400 songs were recorded during the creative process of Strange Magic and, though some did not make the cut in full, you may notice their presence in the film’s score (also by Marius DeVries.) That said, DeVries admitted that he “wanted there to be as little score as possible. Once you’ve committed to telling a story by song, I think you should try to stick to that as closely as possible.” Of course the music was close to my heart, since hubby and I chose, “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You”..as our wedding song, twenty-five years ago!

On the subject of Strange Magic’s story, it is unabashedly a love-centric tale, and as such has quite a few important messages about love for its viewers. The movie professes acceptance and love not only for others, but for yourself as well– an aspect that the film’s stars weighed in on as one of Strange Magic’s more powerful lessons. “The things that make you different are the things that make you beautiful,” said Evan Rachel Wood (who plays Marianne), while Elijah Kelley (Sunny) added that he felt the movie showcases that “no matter how weird and strange you feel like  you are, there’s somebody out there who’s weird and strange like you.” Artfully summing up the cast’s opinions on the moral of Strange Magic, George Lucas stated that “the story is about the difference between infatuation and real love. Real love is on the inside– it’s with somebody you can share things with that can last you your whole life.” Need I say more?

Strange Magic hits theaters this Friday, January 23.

Are you planning to see the movie?
