Leave it to Disney to just keeping adding to their neverending list of awesome ideas! This one I absolutely adore. The Journey to Oz Balloon Tour will be coming across country and begins today at the movie premiere today, at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Ca.  Since we all can’t be out in Hollywood and sometimes miss out on the fun, Disney has made this one within an arm’s reach for people in the NYC area!

Yaaaaahooooo!!! Click your sparkly red shoes together because this balloon is coming home to NYC!

One stop on the “Journey to Oz Balloon Tour”, is NYC on March 5 &  6th, 2013.
You can find all the fun right here in Central Park, so save those dates, you won’t want to miss out! See you there.

Disney announced today the launch of the “Journey to Oz Balloon Tour,” sponsored by leading multichannel retailer HSN and IMAX Corporation, in support of its upcoming fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” opening in U.S. theaters and IMAX® on March 8, 2013. The colorful, “Oz The Great and Powerful”–emblazoned hot-air balloon began its tour this morning from the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, Calif.

Stops for the “Journey to Oz Balloon Tour” to date include:
·       TODAY!!! “Oz The Great and Powerful” premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood  (February 13)
·       Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Calif. (February 17)
·       Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Fla.  (February 20)
·       Central Park in New York City (March 5 & 6)

On February 15, the “Journey to Oz Balloon Tour” app will go live on the official Facebook page for the film (facebook.com/OzTheGreatAndPowerful). Starting then, fans will have the opportunity to unlock screenings in cities near them. Users will vote by Tweeting with a custom hashtag for their city (e.g. #DisneyOzSeattle) or by sharing on Facebook.

“Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.

 United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
Stops in NYC March 3rd One Day Only
To Celebrate its 20th Anniversary
Hilton NYC
Free Event
Over the years a big topic in our house has been WWII. My dad is a WWII veteran and has a million stories about it. He is now 87 and still proud of the time he spent in the US Army that he joined at 17 years old along with his brother. Honestly, I cannot wait for this exhibit to hit NYC and to be able to share the day there with my entire family. It will be quite an honor to see my father and my children sharing the memories of days gone by and the importance they still hold at the present time.

You can also take advantage of this wonderful experience as The US Holocaust Memorial Museum stops in NYC for one day only on its 20th Anniversary Tour. The exhibit is free but you will need to reserve tickets. You can reserve your free tickets right here.

The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is conducting a tour for its 20th Anniversary, and the NYC stop will be on March 3 from 9am-5pm at the Hilton New York. The event aims to introduce New Yorkers to the Museum’s work, and inspire people to take action against indifference today.

There are engaging and instructive activities throughout the day (full schedule available online), but highlights for children include:

  • Building Blocks of Hope: A hands-on art project for children (ages six and above) that will travel to DC for the Museum’s 20th anniversary event in April 2013.
  • Time Capsule in a Milk Can: Emanuel Ringelblum and the Secret Archives of the Warsaw Ghetto: A one-man theatrical performance recommended for students in middle school and older

Curious George has been a part of our family for years and years. How anyone can resist that little monkey is beyond me. The new traveling exhibit Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! will introduce young children to Curious George’s world and inspire their natural inquisitiveness as they explore age-appropriate science, math, and engineering through hands-on play.
“LSC has increased our offerings for families with kids under 7 by adding new educator-led programs, movies and exhibit experiences just for them – and we’re getting great feedback from guests,” says Paul Hoffman, LSC’s President and CEO. “We’re thrilled to add this playful traveling exhibit to the mix.”
Based on the familiar characters in H.A. and Margret

Snowball Surprise Rice Krispies Treats Snow Day Fun

Snowball Surprise
Rice Krispies Treats
Snow Day Fun
Every time a Snow Day hits our house the kids cannot wait to
break out the boots and sleds. Of course the kids can only be
out in the frigid temperature for so long and the rest of the day
they also like to do special things. Hot cocoa is a must and most
of the time we bake cookies. Today we decided to go with Emily’s
idea to make some snowball surprises. They are basically rice
krispies treats rolled into little balls and then covered in
either white frosting, sugar, or both!
This recipe is super easy. I changed some of the ingredients since my children
do not like walnuts or coconut, I changed it to vanilla icing. I was also planning
to get some little white sprinkles, but forgot at the store! Next time.
These are the simple directions.
They are quite easy to follow and the kids will love it.
It’s a perfect Snow Day treat!
Tip #1 Tape aluminum foil to the table and spray it with
non stick spray. Also, after you mix the Rice Krispies/Marshmallow
melt, flatten it out on the foil and leave it a few minutes to cool and
form. It will work much better. I used a pizza cutter so all the balls would come
out close to the same size.
All ages enjoy this treat making recipe!

After shaping the balls you can dip/roll them into
icing or sugar or both!
Emily loves bringing the learning to life at home.
Thank you Mrs. Zielinski for the great activity!
