Giveaway: The Art Of The Brick
 Discovery Times Square NYC
Win A 5 Pack of Tickets (3 winners)
Lego fans unite, you will not want to miss out on this exhibit that just hit
Discovery Times Square, NYC. Being a mom of three, our house is pretty well stocked
with Legos of every shape and size. Over the years of parenting I have spent countless hours building freestyle Legos in addition to following pages of directions to complete a certain
Lego project. When I first heard about Nathan Sawaya I did a double take. I needed to find out more about him and his interesting life of building Legos as a career.
Meeting Nathan was a pleasure and hearing about his life and how this lawyer gone artist really intrigued me. That was only the tip of the iceberg. Nathan took our little group on a private tour of the new exhibit, The Art of the Brick-now at Discovery Times Square, NYC.
As we toured from room to room everyone was fascinated by more than one hundred of
wonder creations using nothing more than Legos. It all started with a brick and then another and another. I was wowed by the Sculpture Garden which included famous sculptures recreated in Lego forms. I asked Nathan as we chatted if the pieces were solid or hollow. He let me know they were hollow and because of their size would be way too heavy to transport if they were solid.
Nathan was very open and answered questions in each of the rooms.
This dinosaur took about twelve weeks to complete.
Pieces were easily recognizable with some of the most popular being The Statue of Liberty and a Head from Easter Island. There were so many unique pieces and so many recreations of famous painting including the Mona Lisa, American Gothic, One Pearl Earring and more. My six year old daughter loved the Lego Planet Earth that hung high above us as we walked down a stairway. My middle son was taken by The Swimmer which included a backdrop of lights simulating waves. As for me, I adored the stained glass Lego window that hung from the ceiling with the reflection of it below on the floor. I never would have known it was a Lego creation. If you are in the NYC area you will not want to wonderful exhibit. There is something for everyone!
