Recently my family and I attended a sneak peek at Sony Pictures, NYC. We were thrilled to get a glimpse into the upcoming Sony Animation’s Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2. The day was complete with a walk through from the film’s directors Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn. Our intimate group of movie lovers could not wait for the lights to dim and to get our first look at what was to come.
Cody and Kris explained parts of the story, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2, and the process behind creating the film and the clips we were viewing. We were immediately introduced to Flint Lockwood and his friends. At the end of the first film, as Flint’s idol Chester V arrived on the scene to propose a clean-up of Swallow Falls and offer Flint a job at his company, Live Corp. Flint accepted, moving away from Swallow Falls, but soon he was sent back to the city by a nervous Chester V, who has discovered something awful there– Flint’s machine has created food-animal hybrids, dubbed “foodimals.” Flint assembles a team of his closest friends to accompany him on his journey back to Swallow Falls, and together they embark on a quest to get the town back to normal once and for all.
The concept art for the numerous “foodimals” slated to appear in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is incredible. We were introduced to foodimals including SaSquash, CheeSpider, Wild Scallions, and BananOstrich, Meatbalrus, Apple Piethon, and Tacodile. There of course is one berry special foodimal, a little strawberry by the name of Barry. I fell in love with this character at first sight. I’m pretty sure that most viewers will, too!
Barry, voiced by director Cody Cameron, is a mischievous little strawberry that the everyone meets up after returning to Swallow Falls. Although Flint’s girlfriend is quite attached to Barry, Flint himself wants nothing to do with him. His mind does change quickly when Barry eats the device Flint needs to fix his machine. The fun begins as Barry leads that group through the city overtaken by foods.
After the movie clips screening we met up with Kris and Cody and were shown a demo on how to create our very own foodimals! What an amazing experience. Children and adults watched in awe as Kris and Cody transformed ordinary everyday fruit into foodimals before our very eyes. We were invited to create our own foodimals using map tack eyes and more.
Our family is looking forward to the completed version of Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 when it hits the big screen on September 27, 2013. The incredible cast includes Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Neil Patrick Harris, Andy Samberg, and James Caan to along with amazing animation and laughs from beginning to end. Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2 should definitely go on your movie #GoSee list!
