Sofia The First: The Secret Library Welcomes Merida

In our house we love Disney. Disney Channel and Disney Junior are always on a tv somewhere. One of Emily’s favorite characters is Merida from Disney Pixar’s Brave. So we were both super excited to hear that on Monday, October 12, Merida  will make an appearance on “Sofia the First: The Secret Library,” the first episode of a four-part story arc where Sofia becomes storykeeper of magical books without endings and now, must pursue adventures that will finish the narratives.  Please see attached for the full press release and image. Being a teacher for twenty years this new opportunity for families really appealed to me. Disney Junior is hoping to inspire the youngest of kids to put pen to paper with “Dear Sofia,” a special initiative tied to the hit animated series. In today’s digital world, the art of the handwritten letter is often lost. Whether they want to know more about Sofia’s home in Enchancia, her friends, or to tell Sofia about their own adventures and send her a picture that they’ve drawn, Disney Junior is inviting kids to send a hand-written letter to Sofia and receive a response back in the mail. Six Flags Great Adventure Introduces Total Mayhem Will Ensue in 2016

 

Six Flags Great Adventure is slated to debut its most insane coaster in history and we cannot wait to ride! Get ready coaster fans, this one is going to super awesome!  Six Flags Great Adventure will dominate as the king of chaos in 2016 when the world’s largest theme park debuts the 14^th and most unique scream machine in its history, Total Mayhem.

After being lifted straight up a 12-story, 90-degree hill, this 4-D, free-fly coaster will wreak havoc as riders flip head-over-heels at least six times along the weightless journey. Thrill seekers will experience exhilarating leaps and dives along a horizontal plane, along with unexpected drops as they tumble from one level to the next. The wing seats amp up the pandemonium since riders will experience all of this chaos with no track above or below – just the sky, ground and adjacent Great Lake churning around them.

The unique design of Total Mayhem features:

• Massive, imposing, floating and twisting I-box track frame in a unique two-tone design
• One-of-a-kind onboard magnetic technology featuring smooth head-over-heels free-fly flips providing guests the feeling of weightlessness as they soar outside the confines of a traditional track
• 4-D wing vehicles that seat up to 8 per vehicle with a total of 5 vehicles
• Face-off seats that allow riders to face each other as they tumble head over heels
• A 120-foot-tall, 90-degree hill that is ascended by an elevator-style, chain link lift
• Two beyond 90-degree “raven” drops giving the sensation of free-falling

 

Total Mayhem is expected to ensue spring 2016, and joins the ranks of legendary roller coasters like El Toro, Kingda Ka, Nitro and 2015’s El Diablo. Project Mc2 Now On Netflix

Recently Netflix introduced another Netflix Original, Project Mc2(Project Mc 2–> squared!)! It’s sure to be a hit with the tween and teen crowd. Emily and Mommy (me) watched all the episodes and loved it! Being a boy mom for so long before Em arrived, I did not realize how tween girls were portrayed. Project Mc2 helps girls along the way of growing up showing that is perfectly fine to be cute and be smart!  Smart is the New Cool! Project Mc2 is a new live-action original tween series featuring four super smart and science-skilled girls who happen to also work for a top-secret spy organization (NBD).

Project Mc² is a fresh take on the typical tween girl show you’re probably familiar with. The series has S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) organically woven throughout the storyline, making it fun and breaking the stereotype that being smart, funny, stylish and capable are mutually exclusive. Project Mc² reflects today’s tweens in a relatable way, giving girls four empowered female leads to look up to.

After watching two of the espisodes (there are three total), Emily was totally shocked by a surprise box sent to us from Netflix. Being part of the Netflix Stream Team is always filled with surprises! She did not know what to expect as she opened the black box labeled, “Top Secret”. Honestly I did not know what to expect either. But, I knew it had to do with Science so it had to be good. Spending part of my twenty year teaching career as a Science teacher has me smiling ear to ear about this new Netflix show.

The box was opened and contained so many S.T.E.A.M. activities- experiments galore! There were even a pair of goggles. So, googles on- Emily proceeded to conduct the experiments one after the other. First up was a test tube glitter tornado. Next up was placing a penny in a peti-dish and monitoring it as it changes to green. Just the fact that my daughter was in the kitchen using the words test tube, googles, and pedi dish really made my day. Who ever knew my little scientist was so good at conducting experiments and recording results. Wow Moment for Mom!
