Join Disney’s #DreamBigPrincess Celebration for International Day of the Girl

After being a BoyMom for sixteen years before Princess Emily arrived into the Sullivan house you probably can’t even begin to imagine how much our lives have changed around here.  Thor and pirate toys slowly being replaced by Cinderella and Ariel dolls became the norm. Being a mom of both boys and girls teaches you something. It teaches you that things and expectations are not exactly the same for both. Hopefully I have taught my boys how to treat girls and my daughter how to be a strong girl. It’s not easy task being a GirlMom…or a BoyMom but we all do our best and learn more every day.

Of course Emily was born a princess and just by luck Disney came up with Dream Big Princess! I remember crying every single time I watched the clip in between shows on the Disney Channel! I remember saying to her a million times- Dream Big Princess Emily. So I was thrilled to discover the big announcement on the Disney Parks Blog, about the “Dream Big, Princess” campaign inviting Disney fans to Disney bound in outfits inspired by their favorite female Disney characters.

The best news that everyone can be a part of the action and join the movement. On October 11, United Nations’ International Day of the Girl you and your daughter can Disney bound for kids everywhere! I’m also beyond excited to say that Emily and Mommy will be at Magic Kingdom celebrating all of our favorite Disney Princesses all day long. You will have to follow along to see what we Disney Bound as that day. One clue- “This Mother Daughter team is going out on tour!”. If you know what song that comes from you may already know.

You can also stay tuned for the premiere of the #DreamBigPrincess video series this month, celebrating the inspiring stories and words of advice from female trailblazers across industries and around the world, captured by twenty one talented young women from thirteen countries. I cannot wait to watch with Emily and encourage her to follow her dreams no matter how big they are.

Now for the best news ever. From October 10 through November 20, each like or share of a public photo or video with #DreamBigPrincess on FacebookInstagram or Twitter will unlock a US $1 donation from Disney Worldwide Services to Girl Up, the United Nations Foundation’s program supporting girls’ leadership and empowerment (minimum donation: $500,000/maximum donation: $1 million).

This initiative is part of Disney’s ongoing “Dream Big, Princess” campaign encouraging kids everywhere to dream big by highlighting key story moments and inspiring qualities that each Disney Princess showcases through her adventures, such as Merida’s bravery, Cinderella’s kindness or Tiana’s perseverance. Is there any better reason to dress up and inspire future generations everywhere?

I’d love all of the 3decades3kids readers to join me on October 11th by posting a picture of yourself or your daughter Disney Bounding and telling why that princess stands out to you and is a great model for girls! Be sure to tag your photo #DreamBigPrincess
