Recently I had the privilege of attending the press event for Disney Consumer Products at the 2014 New York Toy Fair, and it was an amazing event and was filled with Disney magic from beginning to end!

The presentation kicked off with a look ahead at this summer’s Planes: Fire & Rescue, as we were given a special look at the first trailer of the film, as well as a demonstration of the Dusty Crophopper figure that will be released in conjunction with the movie. Then, as the toy was being demonstrated, who should appear but Dane Cook, who plays Dusty in the films! Cook chatted about his work with Planes, and how excited he was to not only be a part of the films, but also to be recorded for the talking figure of his character as well.

Next up was a clip from Amazing Spider-Man 2, which hits theaters this May. The movie looks great, as do the toys based on its villain, Electro, and of course the web-slinging Spider-Man himself. Speaking of Spider-Man himself, as a part of the presentation we were greeted by not one, but two Spider-Men as Jorge Vega, who is set to appear in the movie, and Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man, were present to talk about Amazing Spider-Man 2 and demonstrate some of the toys based on the movie!

After that, we were treated to a never-before-seen glimpse at Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. I’ll admit I hadn’t heard about the film before this, but it’s a must-see, and the featurette we watched made me sure to mark my calendar for the movie’s August release! While Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt couldn’t make it to New York Toy Fair 2014 to attend the press event, he was able to record a short clip showing us the action figure based on his character Star Lord. 

The presentation closed with an advance look at the tv show Star Wars Rebels, set to debut on Disney XD later this year. The show, set between Episodes III and IV, will give us a look at some of the trials faced by a rogue Jedi named Kanan (Freddie Prinze Jr.) and his fellow rebels as they oppose the rising Intergalactic Empire. The Star Wars Rebels section of the presentation was quickly interrupted, however, by a pair of Imperial Stormtroopers guarding none other than Freddie Prinze Jr.! Prinze discussed the process of being cast as Kanan on the show, how thrilled he is to be a part of the Star Wars legacy, and the importance of toys to kids discovering a series like Star Wars. Following the Star Wars Rebels presentation, we were given a look at all the upcoming toys based on these movies and tv shows. I will share all the toy finds in an upcoming post.
