Dino Days Train Ride at Delaware River Railroad and Giveaway

Take in the “Dinosaur Show” with Field Paleontologists Mike and Roberta Straka. We will take you on a scientific exploration highlighting the world of dinosaurs, fossils and rocks/minerals. Each summer, the team explores the Badlands of North and South Dakota excavating dinosaurs. This fun-filled wow-factor show will cover the formation of fossils and herbivores vs. carnivores. We will discuss our work as field paleontologist and our background in geology in a relatable way with entertainment, humor, magic and real fossils. The presentation will feature: “Mr. Nixon”, a real eight foot Triceratops skull discovered by our team in 1996 which is 67 million years old! A real Albertosaurus skull will highlight the features of a carnivore. Original music songs, show & tell with rare fossils, a touch of magic which includes a special “egg magic trick”, which segues to presentation of a real dinosaur egg fossil. “Dinosaur Game Show” will round out the show.

Less than two hours from NYC there will be a new resort opening its doors to us to come and enjoy. Now, I have never been to a Kalahari Resort before, so my family and I are beyond pumped to check it out! This will be their third resort and first one on the east coast! Woot! Woot! We are pretty much waterpark obsessed so this is going to be a win for us!

Kalahari Resort will include an indoor waterpark and convention center. Boasting an authentic African theme, Kalahari will be a one of a kind resort in the Poconos area. It will be a “have all” resort! Looks to me like you will not have to leave for anything. There will be plenty of dining choices, shopping, gaming and more. Star Wars fans unite! For people like us, December 18th cannot come fast enough! Just seeing the trailer clip makes me want to create a countdown calendar to the big day! Having two sons and a hubby SO into Star Wars, I could not help but become addicted to the entire Star Wars movie craze myself! Today in Anaheim, California, J.J. Abrams (writer/director/producer) and Kathleen Kennedy (producer) kicked off  Star Wars Celebration with an exclusive new look at STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. They welcomed surprise special guests from the film: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaacs as well as veterans of the original saga Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, and Peter Mayhew. The talented team of filmmakers and actors shared a behind the scenes look at the upcoming film and, to the surprise of fans around the world, debuted a brand new teaser trailer.

Happy Birthday, Sesame Place! Wow, there is going to be a huge celebration this season and we cannot wait to see what Sesame Place has in store for our family and friends! Every year we have a countdown to opening day. This year the park opens May 2nd! We made it through the winter and if you are like me, you cannot wait to get outside and have some fun! You can be there to join the fun this opening weekend!

This year is the fun has jumped up a notch!  On May 2 nd, Sesame Place is kicking off our season-long 35 th Birthday celebration!  Join in the party all season long with fun and festive birthday decorations and a fantastic newNeighborhood Birthday Party ParadeTM. For the first time ever, the park will be decorated for the celebration with bright balloons and garland, a giant, inflatable birthday cake, and a line of life-sized candles all the way down Sesame Street. New character photo spots will be stationed throughout the park and even the adorable Sesame Street character topiaries will be outfitted in their birthday best!

The celebration continues all season long with the spectacular new Neighborhood Birthday Party Parade. The entire parade will be dressed up for the occasion including colorful balloons, sparkly cupcakes and a brand-new, toe-tapping birthday song! Guests will enjoy three show-stopping performances about letters, numbers, and friendship along with energetic contemporary and classic Sesame Street tunes. The new, interactive birthday stop will have everyone dancing and clapping along with their favorite Sesame Street friends as they are asked to “put their party hats on and blow out the candles!”

Communion Dress Shopping at Nordstroms

Emily’s First Communion Day is almost here. Honestly, I think I have been dreaming about this since her Baptism eight years ago. It’s surreal to me to think how fast life passes by and how fast that little baby I held in my arms has now received two Holy Sacraments( Baptism and First Penance). A few months ago we started to discuss what kind of Communion Dress she might want to wear. We had a long discussion about how making the Sacrament of First Eucharist is not going to the prom. It’s a blessed event and needed to be respected in that way. Although Emily is quite the Diva, I was hoping I was able to convey the holiness of the upcoming special day.

We started our search online. That was quite an overwhelming experience. There were dresses that were so extravagant that they could pass for bridal gowns all the way to what looked like a sundress. So many dresses. The fear immediately went through my mind, “WHAT if we do not agree on the dress?”. I mean, I am the mom, right? But, it’s her Communion? It really stressed me out. I wanted her to be completely happy, yet, I had been conjuring up in my mind what my perfect little Communion Girl would look like. So……we waited to go shopping. I guess I wanted to be sure I could give up part of my “control and opinion” and let her choose as long as it was not too far out of the ball park.

When the calendar hit April a neon sign kept scrolling across the inside of my head- GET THE DRESS!

Last weekend Emily was invited to celebrate a birthday of one of her friends. We decided to go shopping after the party. We did. Hubby, me and Emily headed to the overcrowded mall on a Saturday. I was prepared to spend the DAY and maybe the night trying on dress after dress, going from store to store. I was planning on watching a meltdown in the dressing room because everyone that has a child knows the BEST time to go shopping is after a birthday party! It seemed like a set up for disaster, but I was quite determined to get this show on the road.

The one decision hubby and I had made in advance was that we would start at Nordstorm. So we headed in and let the chips fall. It was pretty exciting to see Emily so happy and I was in utopia just being there. After being a BoyMom for sixteen years before Emily arrived, this was a moment I never ever thought would be a part of my life story. Here it was, here we were- in the middle of the Girls Department surrounded by Holy Communion Dresses. Thank goodness a lovely shopper’s assistant was there to help us. (Thank you, Sonya…You helped more than you will ever know).

Emily’s eyes opened wide as we were shown all the dress choices in her size. We ended up taking seven choices into the dressing room. At that moment I was not sure at all if any of them would make the cut. So, we ventured into the cubicle of hope and starting chatting. We put them into two  sections- Ones she loved a lot and ones she loved a lot lot.  From the ones she loved a lot lot, I asked her which one was her absolute favorite and she felt was respectful to wear to church. All three that she chose were beautiful. She tried on dress number one. I thought I my eyes were going to burst from the insides. I tried to hold it together. It kind of worked. She looked beautiful, just beautiful. Well, I am her mom, so I am a little or a lot bias. The dress fit perfectly. The veil complimented it and even had the same patterned flow that matched the bottom of the dress. I loved it…..and SHE LOVED IT! She paraded out of the dressing to show hubby. I thought I was going to lose my mind when I saw the love in his eyes when he first saw her in the dress. I’ll never forget it. It was such a beautiful moment.

That was it. That was the dress. She tried on ONE. She loved it. It was perfect! We were done. Sonya said she never had someone come in and try on one dress and decide. It was hard for me to believe, too. She asked us a few times if we were sure. We were sure….we are sure…and we are ready for First Holy Communion. I will never forgot this special day…..ever.
