General Mills and DC Entertainment Join Forces to Promote Reading Among Children

General Mills and DC Entertainment Join Forces to Promote Reading Among Children
Joshua Williamson, Steve Scott, Paul Tobin, Louie and Adam

This past weekend my family and I had the wonderful experience of attending New York City Comic Con’s Kids Day as special guests of General Mills and DC Comics. It was exciting to meet and chat with illustrator, Steve Scott, and writers Joshua Williamson and Paul Tobin, from DC Comics.

Being a mom of three and having twenty years of teaching under my belt, I was just delighted to hear about General Mills and DC Entertainment partnering to further children’s love of reading through their new campaign. As if General Mills cereal is not good enough by itself, it just got a little bit better with this new perk. Inside every delicious box you can find one of a series of four Super Hero Comic Books featuring Batman, Green Lantern
and Wonder Woman.
I better leave a little extra time in the mornings because I know we will have some serious reading going on in our house and it will begin right at the breakfast table! A total of 12 million comic books will be offered to costumers, while supplies last.

Justice League books included inside of specially marked Big G  cereal boxes.
You can find the Justice League comics free right  inside specially marked Big G boxes of cereal: Participating Big G cereals include Cinnamon Toast Crunch(17oz.), Lucky Charms(16oz.), Honey Nut Cheerios(17oz.), Trix(14.8oz.), Golden Grahams(16oz.), Reese’s Puffs(18oz.), and Cocoa Puffs(16.5oz.).
Adam, Diane and Louie

“Combining beloved DC Comics Super Heroes with our kid-friendly cereals allow us to play a huge part in providing families everything they need for a positive start to their day,” said Julie Anderla, integrated communications manager at General Mills. “Our aim is to encourage reading among children by providing them with material they are enthusiastic about.” As a mom who loves to both read and promote reading to anyone who will listen, I cannot even begin to tell you how much this promotion thrills me.

Just when you think it can’t get any better, there is still one more thing you should know: You can find Part 2 to each of the comic books online at BigCerealHeroes.Com. Enjoy!
By the way, the comic books are not just enjoyable for children, adults will love them, too! I would know. I have already read all four!

Disclosure: Special thanks to General Mills and DC Entertainment through MyBlogSpark  for providing me with tickets to NYC Comic Con and special meet and greet autograph opportunity. All opinions are that of Diane Sullivan and 3decades3kids.

Air Swimmers! Watch Out For Flying Shark!

Air Swimmers!
While we were at Toys R Us Times Square this weekend, I saw a new toy that I  thought would be somehing great to share. They are called Air Swimmers! Of course the kids wanted them immediately, and Em’s Birthday is coming at the end of the month, so she may get lucky! I thought it was so much fun, too!
Powered by helium, these lighter than light mylar creations fly where ever you would like them to! You control the action with the remote control. Since this is not sponsored, I thought I would just give you a quick peek!

Real Steel Review

Real Steel
In Theaters and IMAX Now
We all love to go to see a movie and come out feeling better than we went in. I really am not the boxing type, so I was a little bit on the fence when I heard about Real Steel. I knew my husband and sons would love it off the bat, but I did have my own doubts about it. My family and friends attended the screening of  Real Steel. It did not disappoint.
Hugh Jackman stars at the washed up boxer with little hope. Meanwhile he has lived his life without being in care of his young son. One day he gets a call that his son’s mother has passed away and he has to step up as the father.
Father meet son. Son meet father. Although, Charlie(the father), still trying to figure out a way to come out on top, deals when it comes to his new taken on son and tries to make it worth his while. The son, being an avid boxing fan, suspects something is going on, but takes the ride.
ATOM
ADAM

And so the story begins as they get to know each other and the father tries to put his life back on track.

This movie takes place in the future, well actually, the not too far off future, where boxing is done by high tech robots.
Hugh Jackson fights for more than winning at boxing in this movie.
As he readies Atom (a robot who saves his son) a reconstructed robot, for the big boxing match.
I must admit that I really did enjoy this movie and the underlying story of a dad and son that end up trying to win more than a boxing match.
You may want to grab a few extra napkins when you go for the popcorn, there is big tissue alert! You will walk out of this action packed heart warming story, feeling good!
Real Steel is directed and produced
by Shawn Levy(“Night at the Museum” and “Date Night”). It stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Dakota Goyo, Anthony Mackie and Kevin Durand. The IMAX Experience has been digitally re-mastered, including image and sound quality with crystal clear images, laser aligned and theater geometry to equal the world’s most immersive movie experience. Real Steel is in theaters and IMAX now. Don’t miss out!
