Netflix The Art of Persuasion- What Are You Watching This Month?

Every family has one– the holdout, the last to join in on watching the show or movie everyone else is already hooked on. Of course, if you’re like me, that’s where you come in: it’s up to you to convince the holdout member of your family (or maybe even the whole group!) to come together and watch your new Netflix favorite together. This month, Netflix wants to help you persuade your kids, parents, S.O.– or whoever your binge-watching buddies may be!– to join in the fun. Check out the guides below for some tips on how to convince even the most stubborn among your group to watch some great shows and movies like Trollhunters, Chef’s Table, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

These guides aren’t the only way that Netflix has your back, though. Netflix’s specialized algorithms help you and your family to break out of your comfort zone and explore shows and movies that are similar to your interests, even though they may be in genres that you may not have previously considered. Todd Yellin, Netflix’s Vice President of Product, noted that “At Netflix we know genres are just wrappers, which is why we work hard to create algorithms that help members break these pre-conceived notions and make it easier for them to find stories they’ll love, even in seemingly unlikely places.” There’s proof of this within some of the best shows on the streaming service itself: one in eight Marvel Television viewers enjoying shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist were new to comic book content before watching these shows; one in five Stranger Things fans had never watched horror on Netflix prior to checking out that show, and one in seven viewers who explored Black Mirror were new to science fiction. In fact, more than 80% of all shows viewers get hooked on are discovered via Netflix recommendations.

So next time you’re looking for a new show or movie to check out– or need to find your next family favorite– be sure to listen to what your friends and family recommend, and keep the suggestions from Netflix in mind as well!!
