DreamWorks Pictures- The Light Between Oceans- Now On Blu-ray! At Home Viewing Party

light9Honestly, is there anything better than gathering up a few friends and watching a movie? In my book that ranks up pretty high on the fun chart. Recently Disney offered to host an at home viewing party for the movie The Light Between Oceans, now available on Blu-ray! How could I ever turn an offer like that down. I am a total sap when it comes to movies that will make me cry. Hubby does not get it. He can’t understand why I would want to sit in front of  a screen with a box of tissues and cry my eyes out. Okay, so I don’t exactly get it either but it’s something that I have always loved to do! It’s like I become one with the character in the movie and actually feel their pain. We bond! lol Thank goodness that our movie viewing party box came with tissues, we needed lots and lots of tissues.

So, The Light Between Oceans At Home Viewing Kit arrived a few days before the party. The kit was absolutely as perfect as a kit could be and included everything that you could ever ask for in order to have maximum emotional extraction the night of the party. I was beyond pumped because a hard copy of the book was also included. Say no more- before I was even done unboxing, I started reading the book! Read. Read. Read. Read….. I had to finish the book before the movie. Did I mention that I wanted to see this movie badly but somehow never got the chance to, or maybe I was afraid I would flood the theater with my tears? It took me exactly six hours to read the book cover to cover….and I cried! That is another thing hubby does not understand. He does not get how sitting on my favorite chair snuggled up with a blanket and cup of tears crying my eyes out over paper pages in a book is enjoyable, but you get it right? I was SO sad about all the events in this book and I was SO MAD!!! I was mad at the Isabel! I was mad at Isabel for keeping the baby and then I even madder for what she does later in the story. Ugggg! I was also sad. I cried. Then I cried more. Then more.

Moving right along to our movie night.  I was the only one who knew the FULL story. I already knew what was coming. That gave me the chance to start crying even before parts showed on the screen. As we assembled to watch The Light Between Oceans we had a full blown team of people! Our viewing party consisted of myself, my ten year old daughter (don’t judge-she’s really like twenty in mental years), our two baby sitters and of course my two older sons and my husband. As my husband stated- he needed to see exactly what had me dripping tears all over our pillows.

Our kit was complete with The Light Between Oceans Blu-ray, book, Tea Tins, amazing coffee mugs, bath bombs, soy candles, tissue packs and slippers!!! Yes, slippers!! What a great kit! In my eyes it was put together perfectly!

We filled our coffee mugs, grabbed some movie munchies, turned down the lights and watched. By the way, I have this weird habit before we watch a movie at home. I always play the youtube movie preview! That gives everyone a clue as to what is coming! It also gives us a chat point. So, we watched the preview and (I already knew because I read the book) found out that Tom and Isabel are madly in love and live on an island alone because is the sole caretaker of the lighthouse. Isabel has a miscarriage or two (there are two crosses in the grass) and is extremely sad. She is outside one day and hears a baby crying and sees a boat that has washed ashore. Her and her husband rush to the boat to find a baby!! Isabel wants to keep the baby. Tom does not. WHO do you agree with???

Preview ends and we have a TEN minute discussion before the movie even starts!!! My hubby and I almost get into an argument because I secretly already know what happens from reading the book and to my surprise he THINKS Isabel is right and should just KEEP the baby! WHAT????? As I said previously, I was SO mad at Isabel! How can you just take a baby? I mean, it’s someone’s baby right? It’s not hers just because it washes ashore. My hubby thinks they should just keep it because then are the only ones on the island and it will make his wife happy. Ugg!! So, now I’m like, ” So, you would just keep someone’s baby just to keep (me) your wife happy?”.  He says he felt so sorry for Isabel. I did get him to agree that if I was ever that sad and a baby washed up to NOT let us keep it! As for the rest of the viewing party, they were pretty much split on what they would do. Mind you- this was all before we even started watching the movie.

NOW, I cannot tell you anymore about our “discussion” as the movie went on but there are things that happen in the movie that really make you question what you would do in the same situation.

If you want to host a great movie night with your friends and family….and maybe your husband this is a very good movie to gather up around. But be warned. You will need tissues. Every one of us in the room teared up at some point. Some of us were in faucet mode!! No matter what side you take during this movie you will be jarred with emotion. At the end we all loved the movie and had to agreed just how amazing it all came together.

Cianfrance was transfixed by M.L. Stedman’s writing and remained faithful to her book, explaining, “The most meaningful compliment on the film I’ve received so far was from Stedman herself, who said she spent the day weeping after attending a screening … weeping because she felt that she was understood.” According to Stedman, “The result is an exquisitely beautiful and emotionally authentic film that stays true to the spirit of my novel, yet also embodies the deeply personal interpretation of the director and his actors. It’s been a great privilege to watch it come into being.”
