As you may already know we have a family of five. Within that family the ages vary greatly. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to find something we can attend where everyone is happy. There is one place our family has gone to for years. We have celebrated birthdays and anniversaries there, Father’s Day, Report Card day and just plain old family time together day. That place is Medieval Times in Lyndhurst, NJ! You can experience North America’s most popular dinner attraction. See the electrifying show featuring heroic knights on magnificent horses displaying the astounding athletic feats and thrilling swordplay that have become hallmarks of this unique entertainment experience. Enjoy a “hands-on” feast as the dynamic performance unfolds before you. A sweeping musical score and brilliant lights provide a fabulous backdrop for this spellbinding experience that blurs the boundary between fairy tale and spectacle!

medtimes2medtimes6Here are a few TIPS for when you visit Medieval Times!

  1. Arrive early. The fun begins about an hour before your actual show time. There are plenty of things to do during that time including taking pictures with the King or Queen, watching a knighting celebration, grabbing some free or paid picture opps, enjoying a drink that you can easily bring inside and of course shopping!!
  2. Dress up! I don’t mean in your Sunday best- you can dress your children up as knights or princesses. If you forget a cape or tiara don’t worry, they sell them right in the preshow area.
  3. Check out the Knighting Ceremony if it’s a special day for someone in your family. My son was knighted a few years ago on his birthday. During this trip my daughter became a Lady of the Realm. This was totally unplanned but ended up being a great idea. Emm wanted a beautiful tiara. It cost $24.99 (a little steep in comparison to most items). When I went to pay the girl asked if I wanted the knighting ceremony. For less than ten dollars more Emily was given a memory that will last a life time. She was summoned by the King and Queen, became a Lady of the Realm during the ceremony, was given a framed picture of the event and her name was announced during the show inside. WOW!! I was buying the tiara anyway! What a great deal and experience.
  4. This is the menu—>> I always like to know what lies ahead, so check it out. Medieval Times’ noble guests feast on garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, pastry of the Castle, coffee and two rounds of select beverages. A full-service bar is also available for adult guests. Vegetarian meals are available upon request
  5. The entire dinner is served without a fork, spoon or knife! They do provide moist clean up napkins! Personally, I think the entire eating the meal with your hands is fun but my little princess would sooner starve to death than touch chicken with her hands, so I do sneak in a plastic fork- Please DON’T Tell!!
  6. You can ask for a togo box for leftovers! In the past I did not know that and left behind way too much food that could have been heated up later for another meal.
  7. Let loose and enjoy! Cheer for your knight! Everyone is! You may even get one of the special flowers the knights toss out into the crowd. Emm has gotten one every single time we have visited Medieval Time!
  8.  You won’t go broke buying some souvenirs. We grabbed some Medieval Times tee shirts at 2 for $20, little picture frames for $2, matching mommy and me leather bracelets for $7 each and a few other items that were just normal prices. It’s something I have to commend Medieval Times on.
  9. Check out more about Medieval Times here http://www.medievaltimes.com/
  10. If you are a teacher there are special preview nights for you and a guest! It’s a great place for a class trip!

Nintendo Switch Available March 3rd! We Have Already Played It At The Preview Event!

After following the rumors and little details about Nintendo’s upcoming and mysterious “NX” project to the announcement of the Nintendo Switch, my family has been super excited to check out Nintendo’s newest console. We were beyond elated when we scored an invite to play the most coveted new game system a month before its actual release date of March 3, 2017. At Nintendo’s event in New York City we were able to check out all the Nintendo Switch had to offer! Our family gave the new system and games a thumbs up!

Our first stop had to be checking out the highly-anticipated Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will be releasing as a launch title on the Nintendo Switch. We were able to play through a 20-minute-long demo set at the beginning of the game. Breath of the Wild’s visuals are incredible, and the Legend of Zelda series has been a longtime favorite for my son. One of the most impressive games shown off, the newest Zelda title gives players the choice to approach missions & objectives by whatever means they see fit. Link can interact with the world more than ever before, as he scales rocks and cuts down trees to build bridges. The demo focused on a “small,” as the Nintendo representatives said, portion of the world that the game has to offer, as we were then shown the massive map in full size.

After checking out Just Dance and taking a look at the trailer for Super Mario Odyssey, Em & Adam decided to show their competitive side in playing some matches of Splatoon 2, the sequel to Nintendo’s critically acclaimed 2015 paint-based multiplayer shooter Splatoon. After trying out a match on the television screens that were set up, they made their way over to the other side of the demo booth where they played a match on the Nintendo Switch’s built-in screen. With the addition of new weapons along with some new faces, locations, and customization options, Splatoon is shaping up to be the biggest game of the summer.

Next, we tried out Sonic Mania, which lets players utilize the Switch controllers in a different way. The game truly has the classic feel that longtime Sonic the Hedgehog fans love, as you find yourself & one other player traversing through new levels in the Green Hill Zone as Sonic & Tails. On top of the classic environments, however, there is a brand new world to explore in Sonic Mania — Studiopolis. A vibrant city world, Studiopolis feels like a lost page or deleted scene from one of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games, as it perfectly captures the feel and aesthetic of the older titles that we love. Both levels in the demo, both Green Hill Zone and Studiopolis, brought me great amounts of nostalgia, and allowed my children to get fully immersed into the Sonic universe.

Another impressive game that was being showed off was Arms, an ambitious new first-party title from Nintendo. Harnessing the new technology found in the Nintendo Switch, players can use two pieces from the controller to fistfight virtually against opponents. With intuitive controls that truly put players in the action, my son & daughter had an awesome time fighting against each other in Nintendo’s new soon-to-be hit fighting game.

My daughter also had the opportunity to play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on stage in front of the crowd. It’s great getting to see one of our family’s favorite titles from the Wii U era making it’s way to Nintendo’s next generation of gaming. Beautifully designed with some new additions, Mario Kart looks as good as ever, and now can be taken on the go with the portability of the Nintendo Switch. With minimal differences in quality between playing on a large screen and playing on the Nintendo Switch’s built-in screen, this system is the new way-to-go for on the road console gaming.

After the game’s announcement at the event, we were also lucky enough to see Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers in action on the Nintendo Switch. Running at 60 frames per second and looking absolutely fantastic, my son had a great time going head-to-head in a digitally updated version of the classic 1991 fighting game. My hubby even stepped up to the challenge and beat out one of the game’s creators. Of course I think hubby had an unfair advantage since he had played the original Street Fighter many moons ago when he was  a kid.
 Nswitch5arms
Overall, the event was awesome! We got to check out all of the incredible and promising games that will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch this year. The system has a lot to go around for all types of gamers, whether you prefer playing casually or hardcore. I can’t wait to learn more about the console soon, and check it out with the family when it releases on shelves this March! A Series Of Unfortunate Events -Streaming on Netflix Jan. 13th! #ASOUE @Unfortunate

A Series Of Unfortunate Events -Streaming on Netflix Jan. 13th! #ASOUE @Unfortunate

aseries2As if my family was not already obsessed with Netflix enough, they always have something up their sleeve. I think it’s one of the things I love most about Netflix, you never know what they are going to do next! We were dreadfully surprised when the news came in that A Series of Unfortunate Events would be coming to Netflix. To put it mildly, my family could not wait for the day to arrive- Jan. 13th- today!

Recently, we had the chance to attend the red-carpet premiere for Netflix’s newest original series A Series of Unfortunate Events, based on the famous books from author Daniel Handler, a.k.a. Lemony Snicket. Before seeing the first two episodes of the show, coming to Netflix in over 100 countries tomorrow on January 13th, we heard a few words from director Barry Sonnenfeld, Daniel Handler himself, and Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. After hearing about how much time, love, and effort was put into bringing this show to life, the lights dimmed and we were treated to what will be one of the biggest shows of 2017.

Aseriesseries3

The first episode begins with a narration from Patrick Warburton, who does an excellent job in portraying Lemony Snicket in the show. After warning the audience how dreadful the following story would be, the tale begins and we are introduced to the Baudelaire children — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, and the dastardly Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris, who plans to steal the money left in the Baudelaire will after their parents’ passing. Being a longtime fan of the book series, it felt as if the characters had popped off of the pages in this perfect rendition of the tale. The show carries the same odd and quirky sense of humor found in the books, and all of the jokes are delivered perfectly.
After watching the second episode, we couldn’t wait until Friday the 13th when the show releases on Netflix. The first two episodes do a great job of getting you familiar with the world, characters, and getting you hooked for a great binge-watching experience. From what we’ve seen, A Series of Unfortunate Events is perfect for both fans of the book series & newcomers alike. With charming characters, a great cast, and some beautiful set design, this is not a show to miss.

series7Following the two-episode screening, we made our way along with the cast to Tavern on the Green in Central Park, where we attended the after party. Our family had time to converse with the cast members and others involved with the production. Big congratulations were in order and much celebrating was to be had! The cast was amazing and quite welcoming- we spent time chatting about what it meant to have A Series of Unfortunate Events hit Netflix. It was a great experience getting to share and hear stories firsthand, most of which I cannot repeat.  We loved celebrating one of the biggest upcoming shows of 2017.
By the way, if you were wondering about Don Halcombe, he is just absolutely horribly hilarious in person as he comes across under his pen name Lemony Snicket. He had something dreadful and unfortunate to say to everyone he spoke to at the event. After meeting him, it’s no wonder that both the books and series are so incredible. Upon saying that, I have to go- A Series of Unfortunate Events in streaming on Netflix NOW!!!- Go WATCH it!!
series8series9
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events stars Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton, Joan Cusack, Alfre Woodard, Catherine O’Hara, Don Johnson, Aasif Mandvi, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes.  Executive Producers Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler had the ever unfortunate duty of bringing this most dreaded story to life.
