A Series Of Unfortunate Events -Streaming on Netflix Jan. 13th! #ASOUE @Unfortunate

aseries2As if my family was not already obsessed with Netflix enough, they always have something up their sleeve. I think it’s one of the things I love most about Netflix, you never know what they are going to do next! We were dreadfully surprised when the news came in that A Series of Unfortunate Events would be coming to Netflix. To put it mildly, my family could not wait for the day to arrive- Jan. 13th- today!

Recently, we had the chance to attend the red-carpet premiere for Netflix’s newest original series A Series of Unfortunate Events, based on the famous books from author Daniel Handler, a.k.a. Lemony Snicket. Before seeing the first two episodes of the show, coming to Netflix in over 100 countries tomorrow on January 13th, we heard a few words from director Barry Sonnenfeld, Daniel Handler himself, and Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. After hearing about how much time, love, and effort was put into bringing this show to life, the lights dimmed and we were treated to what will be one of the biggest shows of 2017.

The first episode begins with a narration from Patrick Warburton, who does an excellent job in portraying Lemony Snicket in the show. After warning the audience how dreadful the following story would be, the tale begins and we are introduced to the Baudelaire children — Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, and the dastardly Count Olaf, played by Neil Patrick Harris, who plans to steal the money left in the Baudelaire will after their parents’ passing. Being a longtime fan of the book series, it felt as if the characters had popped off of the pages in this perfect rendition of the tale. The show carries the same odd and quirky sense of humor found in the books, and all of the jokes are delivered perfectly.
After watching the second episode, we couldn’t wait until Friday the 13th when the show releases on Netflix. The first two episodes do a great job of getting you familiar with the world, characters, and getting you hooked for a great binge-watching experience. From what we’ve seen, A Series of Unfortunate Events is perfect for both fans of the book series & newcomers alike. With charming characters, a great cast, and some beautiful set design, this is not a show to miss.

series7Following the two-episode screening, we made our way along with the cast to Tavern on the Green in Central Park, where we attended the after party. Our family had time to converse with the cast members and others involved with the production. Big congratulations were in order and much celebrating was to be had! The cast was amazing and quite welcoming- we spent time chatting about what it meant to have A Series of Unfortunate Events hit Netflix. It was a great experience getting to share and hear stories firsthand, most of which I cannot repeat.  We loved celebrating one of the biggest upcoming shows of 2017.
By the way, if you were wondering about Don Halcombe, he is just absolutely horribly hilarious in person as he comes across under his pen name Lemony Snicket. He had something dreadful and unfortunate to say to everyone he spoke to at the event. After meeting him, it’s no wonder that both the books and series are so incredible. Upon saying that, I have to go- A Series of Unfortunate Events in streaming on Netflix NOW!!!- Go WATCH it!!

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events stars Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Warburton, Joan Cusack, Alfre Woodard, Catherine O’Hara, Don Johnson, Aasif Mandvi, Malina Weissman and Louis Hynes.  Executive Producers Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler had the ever unfortunate duty of bringing this most dreaded story to life.
