School of Rock: The Musical- A Perfect Choice For All Ages! @SoRmusical

School of Rock: The Musical – A Perfect Choice For All Ages!SOC10Recently, my family had the chance to attend Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hit new Broadway production School of Rock: The Musical. In one of the most fun and energetic shows that fans of the 2003 film and newcomers alike should see, School of Rock translates perfectly to the stage. Being a huge fan of the original movie, I was happy to see many of the jokes making their way into the show, along with some new ones that fell in line with the style and spirit of the movie. Watching the show live brought one of my favorite comedies to life before my eyes. Seeing one of my favorite movies come to life was a dream come true!

In School of Rock: The Musical, a thirty-something-year-old Dewey Finn has found himself behind on the rent, and kicked out of his own band. So, when a phone call from a prestigious school for his best friend about a teaching opportunity is presented to Finn, he finds what could be the solution to his problems. After taking the job, Finn becomes “Ned Schneebly,” the name of his longtime friend and roommate. Upon arriving at the school nearly two hours after the first period has begun, Finn sees that these children need to be broken from the formula that they live in, and showed the ways of rock and roll.

Finn is portrayed perfectly in the show, as his live-action counterpart channels Jack Black’s magic without stepping on the toes of the original performance. All of the children involved in the show’s production are also extremely talented, as they play most of their instrumental sections in real time. The show will bring great nostalgia to fans of the movie, as the final performance is executed perfectly, and the show gives you the same feeling that watching the movie for the first time did.

After seeing the performance, we waited as the children from the show made their way back to the stage for a Q&A session. We had the chance to hear about what life is like on set, as each actor is assigned a guardian who must be with them at all times, to where they were when they found out that they got the part. The children, ranging from anywhere in between age nine to their early teens, all loved working with the show, and, while exhausting, have nothing but a great time during the performance. My ten year old daughter asked how often the children had to practice and was told it depended on if they were an understudy or if they were in the show a long time. The practice varied according to the role they had. My hubby asked if their parents were allowed to attend the shows or if they had a go to adult. They told him the parents had to drop them off at the Stage Door and they were taken care of by an assigned guardian.

We loved having the opportunity to check out School of Rock: The Musical, as it is fun for the entire family. Our middle son grew up on the original film, where our youngest had not seen it yet. It was interesting to hear both their perspectives on the Broadway production. Our middle son, who has seen the movie a zillion times thought they got the musical absolutely perfect! My daughter who has never seen the movie, now wants to see it badly! Our family can’t wait to take visiting friends and family to see this great show when they are in town! School of Rock: The Musical is a must-see for 2017, and an experience that your family should definitely not miss! A while back our family got a sneak peek at the beginning of DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby and absolutely loved it! You are really in store for some fun with this one. Both parents and kids are going to laugh throughout the film. I am beyond thrilled to be able to invite readers of 3decades3kids to a super advance screening of the movie. DreamWorks Animation and the director of Madagascar invite you to meet a most unusual baby.  He wears a suit, speaks with the voice and wit of Alec Baldwin, and stars in the animated comedy, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby.  The Boss Baby is a hilariously universal story about how a new baby’s arrival impacts a family, told from the point of view of a delightfully unreliable narrator, a wildly imaginative 7 year old named Tim.  With a sly, heart-filled message about the importance of family, DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby is an authentic and broadly appealing original comedy for all ages.  http://www.dreamworks.com/thebossbaby/

Directed by: Tom McGrath

Written by: Michael McCullers (based on the award-winning picture book by Marla Frazee)

Cast: Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Miles Bakshi
