CELEBRATE WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY
Sesame Street’s Abby Cadabby and Autism Speaks Co-Founders

NYC Look UP, tonight! Look Up!
There are few things closer to my heart than children. Basically between teaching for twenty years and having three children I can’t even imagine a day going by without being focused on a child somewhere. Knowing and loving quite a few children with Autism made celebrating World Autism Day today even sweeter.
Besides loving children, there are a bunch of characters I feel particularly close to, they would all happen to live on Sesame Street. Being a Sesame Place Ambassador Blogger is something I cherish, so when I was invited to witness Abby Cadabby pull the switch and light the Empire State Building Blue in honor of Autism I could not answer yes fast enough! What an absolute honor!
This morning in a ceremony celebrating Autism Awareness Day I had the privilege of meeting Suzanne and Bob Wright, the co-founders of Autism Speaks. The world cannot be thankful enough for these two incredible people. Of course the President and CEO of Sesame Workshop, H. Melvin Ming stood proudly alongside Abby Cadabby as they both beamed about Autism Speaks fifth annual Light It Up Blue global campaign to raise awareness about autism.
As they flipped the switch and lit the world-famous Empire State Building’s tower lights blue in celebration of World Autism Awareness Day and Autism Awareness Month. Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind Sesame Street, in partnership with Autism Speaks will announce plans to develop a new community engagement initiative to help reduce the stigma surrounding children with autism. The Empire State Building is one of thousands of iconic landmarks worldwide that will participate in “Light It Up Blue,”today, April 2nd! I will get a little teary eyed tonight to look up at that tall friend of mine, The Empire State Building, and see him dressed in blue!
