One of my favorite shows on television starts its
 5th season tonight.
Cake Boss premieres May 28th at 9pm/8c on TLC. This season will have 16 half hour episodes, including the 100th show!
Being very close to Hoboken, NJ I have visited Carlo’s Bakery many times. Yum is the word if you have never been there. You may have to wait in line, but it is well worth it.
Recently, I had the chance to check out Buddy’s latest addition: Cake Boss Lackawanna Cake Factory.
At Lackawanna Cake Factory you can be the baker or the decorator! There are plenty of class choices and the fun and experience is priceless!
Anyone that knows me, knows that I love to bake and cook, so I was eager to challenge myself and see just what it would be like to actually create a Cake Boss cake!
I was excited from the moment I arrived. My 12 year old son joined me. The classes are for ages 10+, so it’s great to go to with a friend of with your child. We loved, learned and laughed!
We had to be buzzed into Lackawanna Cake Factory, since it is also the new baking facility for the Cake Boss.
From the moment we entered the Cake Factory we were overtaken by the delicious scent of something yummy in the making, or should I say baking!
I chose a cake fondant decorating class for us and we could not wait to get started. We were greeted by family as we waited!
Soon our group was escorted through the Cake Boss Cake Factory and into our special baking/decorating room. Our room was Cake Boss Next Great Baker was filmed and our teacher just happened to be the winner of the 2012 season, Marissa Lopez.
If you love Cake Boss, you will NOT want to miss out on this opportunity to bake at the Cake Factory.
It was a dream come true for everyone in the room.
Each person in the class is given their own Carlo’s Bakery apron to keep, and supplies to use during the class. Wow! It was so exciting, we could not wait to get started!
Of course, all this time I have been watching the show Cake Boss at home, I was always thinking,”I can do that! So easy!”.
Well, now the truth was about to come out.
The class began and I immediately  loved how we were given the already baked cake, tour of the room and step by step demonstration of how to use the fondant and decorate.
Easy, right? Let me tell you, they make it look SO easy on tv!
It was tough work, but everyone was at ease to know that help was always a touch away. Although, working with fondant has many challenges, everyone in the room was able to create to their heart’s content. Each of the class of 28 had a different cake at the end. I loved how the freedom to create was encouraged, but the sample was right in front of you for quick reference. We were also given the steps on paper to refer to, although the help was always there, so we really did not need them.
If you have ever been jealous of the the golden ticket winners on Willie Wonka, this is your chance to be one of them. You can get yourself right inside the Cake Factory! Since it is run by family, you will definitely see many of the faces you have come to love on Cake Boss right there in person.
I had the pleasure of meeting up and interviewing Mauro Castano. I will post our interview and
about our trip to Carlo’s Bakery in my next post.
I would recommend Cake Boss Lackawanna Cake Factory classes to anyone. No experience needed!
There are plenty of classes to choose from with both baking and decorating and you can get in on the fun!
We left our class with these two beautiful cakes. They not only looked beautiful, they tasted delicious! You can check out the classes by clicking here: classes.carlosbakery.com.
