Em’s First Kindergarten Class Trip Pumpkin Picking

Em’s First Kindergarten
Class Trip Pumpkin Picking
Donaldson’s Farm
Hackettstown, NJ
Yesterday I had the pleasure of being a chaperone on
Em’s first class trip ever. It was especially heartwarming since both my sons’
first class trips were to pumpkin farms.
The trip was to Donaldson’s Farm in
Hackettstown, NJ. It’s exit 19 off of Route 80.
My family has been to Donaldson’s a few times, but we have
not been there in years and years.
Em’s class enjoyed a little private event celebration
when they arrived that included freshly picked apples,
apple cider, and the reading of the book
Spookley The Square Pumpkin.
The children were also taught about different types
of pumpkins and the many uses of them.
It wasn’t long after that everyone boarded
the tractor-pulled hayride for a tour of the farm.
Everyone was shown where the corn, strawberries,
mums, apples and many other fruits and vegetables were grown.
The view of the mountains were spectacular!
Soon we arrived at a pumpkin field where pumpkins
sized perfectly for Kindergarten students were growing.
The children searched the field for their own
perfect pumpkin. Emily checked about 30 before
making her final decision!
I loved how the pumpkins were still on the vines and
taken off only after they were chosen by each child.
Every child boarded the hay ride for the return trip
where we all enjoyed lunch and a little play time!
It was the perfect first class trip experience and
I was so honored to be a part of it.
If you are a teacher or a parent, this is a wonderful
farm to visit. The people are very child friendly and
the family has owned the farm for many years.
There is a shoppe on the grounds that sells
a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and bakery goods.
We had the perfect day at Donaldson’s Farm!

Six Flags Fright Fest Great Adventure Jackson, NJ

Six Flags
Fright Fest
Great Adventure
Jackson, NJ
Thrills By Day
Fright By Night
Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Thru October 28th
Last weekend my family had some frightful fun visiting
Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, NJ-
less than two hours from NYC.
We had never been to Six Flags during
the Halloween season before so we were
very eager to see what was in store for us.
Since my children range in age from 5-21 I was
thrilled to find out about Thrills by Day, Fright by Night.
We had already planned that my hubby would wait in a safe zone with
my five year old daughter at about 6pm when the
 transformation took place.
Thrills By Day
Our day started out great and we immediately loved
how Halloween like the park looked.
Our first stop was the Blood Fountain!
It sure put us in the mood and even though I don’t generally
like gory, I did think it was great, especially how it was adorned by
skeletons!
We headed to some of our favorite rides and hot spots in the park.
We really enjoyed the Haunted Wagon Spells, a hay ride that took
us out of the park, through the woods, near the water, and even by a haunted house.
Along the way we met up with some spooky yet friendly creatures including
Frankenstein, Dracula, Witches and more. This is great for little ones
and gets a bit scarier at night.
The trick-or-treat trail was fantastic and worth it.
It was short but got the job done and along the way we met Bug Bunny,
Taz, Tweety, Porky Pig and Daffy Duck!  We
also had a blast at Professor Slithers’ Creepy Critters where
spiders and snakes stole the show. The music of a local band
was the backdrop of our fun at Dawn of the Dead and we could not
help but dance along at the Monster Mash Bash!
The day was fun for all ages and there was nothing scary about it.
It was appropriate for all ages! There were more than enough
things to choose from including the new Spooky Kooky Magic Show,
The Spooktacular Street Party, Ghoulmaster’s Ghosts,
Safari Discoveries, Safari Theater and of course all of
your favorite rides!
Even if you are older I would recommend getting to the
park early and riding your
favorite rides during the day, so you can devote the night
to some totally gruesome fun!
Fright By Night
Of course as the sun began to set and the clock came upon
6pm the tone of Six Flags Great Adventure changed and you could
just feel the excitement in the air. My sons and I were in for some
horror fun and we could not be any more ready for the big scare.
6pm marks The Awakening, new this year. This parade of ghoulies and zombies
hits the Six Flags streets in a huge funeral procession that ends up
with the awakening of all zombies and creatures that will
lurk in the park the rest of the night.
After the Awakening, we headed to the terror trails including the new
Shipwreck Cove where we were chased by sword carrying zombies.
From there we headed to Bone Butcher Terror Tory where we were
spooked through the smoke by shovel scraping lunatics! FUN!
Of course that was nothing in comparison to the fear that
The Manor, Insanity: Gears of the Mind, and Wasteland provided.
If you plan of testing your level of fear this is the place to do it.
I swore I would not scream, but my heart was racing quite a
few times and yes, I did let out a yell or two…or maybe three.
Okay, I lost count at one point!
By the way, if you don’t like clowns, I suggest you
stay far away from Circus Psycho. If you like clown terror, you
will love this one. There are clowns everywhere.
When it comes to dishing out Halloween Horror fun, I don’t think
Six Flags Great Adventure can be beat.
If you are looking for a great scare fest, definitely check out
Six Flags Fright Fest! You won’t be disappointed and
you will SCREAM!  You can check out all the frights here.
