The Holiday Blizzard!


Wow! When I heard the original forecast about the impending snowstorm, I was very skeptical. As the first snowflakes began to show themselves, I stated to believe that the actual storm would really happen. But, I had NO idea what was to come. The snow fell and fell and fell. The blizzard seemed to be never ending as inch after inch of snow white flakes piled up on top of the steps, sidewalk and roads. The cars seems to disappear.

As the night went on thunder and lightening filled the sky. It was a storm like I had not seen in a long time. When all was said and done, our family woke up to over 3o inches of SNOW!! The kids jumped with happiness when they opened the front door! It was Emily’s first big snowstorm and my sons had not seen a biggie like this before in their lives. They headed out for some “snowfun“!

Wow! I’m really not a big fan of snow at all, but it was pretty….I just hope it’s not a prelude to the winter of 2011! Happy Snow Days!

A New York City Christmas!


Even though I did not actually spend Christmas in New York City, I did spend a lot of time there leading up until Christmas. It seems no matter how much time you have in NYC, it’s never enough!

I felt especially blessed to share the holiday experience with my family. I was lucky enough to see Tiffany’s lit up as a gift box and their gigantic crystal light display illuminating the streets. Radio City always know how to do it up right with wooden soldiers that go alongside the famous sign as they tip over every few minutes!


Of course my yearly favorite was Rockefeller Center where people lined the surrounding streets shoulder to shoulder trying to get a glimpse of the humongous tree. But the crowd was well worth it! The tree at Rock Center was just breathtaking! It’s really an experience you would not want to miss if you are in the area.

The windows all the way down 5th Avenue were adorned with different scenes, one more beautiful than the nest. I think no matter what street you walked down from Times Square up to Central Park you were able to be taken in by the city lights! It’s makes me sad to see the Christmas season come to an end, but I do look forward to the Christmas lights in New York City every year!

AMC Dine-In Theatres at AMC Menlo Park 12

Beginning December 15th you can watch a movie and dine in luxury! In my past blog I wrote about the Dine In experience at the Fork and Screen, the movie theater designed for everyone. This time I experienced AMC Cinema Suites, special theatres for the 21+ crowd! AMC Menlo Park has 4 suites like this. They feature
Premium, upscale in-theatre dining- Reserved seating in luxury recliners- Extensive menu options such as Lobster Ravioli and Bleu Cheese Chips. I personally ordered the Tenderloin Steak Tips and can’t even begin to tell you how delicious they were!
You can enjoy your appetizers, dinner and/or dessert on the unique swivel tables via seat

service! Just a press of the red button and your waiter will appear with your favorite drink (I enjoyed the Mango smoothie), speciality popcorn, or whatever you choose to order! By the end of the movie your check will be delivered and that’s a wrap!

The only problem I see going to the AMC Cinema Suites it that is it SO comfortable, it was sad to see the movie come to an end. I cannot wait to go back again!

The AMC Dine-In Menlo Park 12 also features the Fork and Screen in 8 of the theaters for:
casual in-theater tabletop dining,
upgraded reserved seating,a wonderful menu including crab rangoon dip (delicious) and many other great choices.
Guests must be at least 18, or accompanied by a parent or guardian at least 21.

Until a few weeks ago, I never even knew that a theater like this existed. Imagine the concept of dinner and a movie? Not a foreign concept, right? But, at AMC Dine-In Theatres you can have both under one roof, or should I say, under one movie theater roof?

My family and I have been lucky enough to preview two different AMC Dine-In Theatres. It’s very nice, but does take a little bit of getting used to on everyone’s part.

First of all, the seats are numbered and your number appears on your movie ticket. I’m not sure how I feel about this because I love to choose my own seat at the movies. At the preview we were able to sit where we wanted to, so it was not an issue as of yet.

Let me explain how the theater works. The two we visited did it differently with pricing systems, so I guess you have to check the individual location to see how they do it. At Essex Greene, the ticket price is $2o, but that includes $10 towards your food. At the AMC Bridgewater, it’s a $10 ticket plus $10 towards your food and beverage purchase during non-peak hours, so it’s a $20 ticket total, and $15 towards your food and beverage purchase during peak hours, so it’s a $25 ticket total. Once you are seated into a very comfy seat, you can check your menu. There is a little waiter light/ button that you push for service. The waiter comes and takes your order and delivers it before or during the movie (depending on when you place your order). This was actually less disruptive than you would think because there are many less seats in the new theaters. There are only 4 seats per row and 3 sections to each row.
There is also no concession stand, so every item is delivered to your seat, including popcorn served in a giant bowl, big soda glasses (with no lids) as well as refills!
The concession stand has been replaced by a bar for before and after movie “fun”. Once again, not sure I am a fan of “drinking” at the movies. There is a special theater for age 21 and above where drinks are served throughout the movie.


As the film comes to an end you are presented with you bill. This I was not thrilled with because if you are involved with the ending of the movie you really do not want to be bothered worrying about getting the bill paid.
As a whole I enjoyed the AMC Dine-In Theater. It was fun and different. I personally like to chat during dinner, so it would not be my choice every time I went to a movie. I did however like how you could get a cup of coffee! (But, no refill?)

Holiday Light Spectacular!


When December rolls around, I am always in awe of all of the Christmas lights that glow everywhere I go. I especially like going to places that have light displays. This year we tried something new. I visited Essex County’s Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange, NJ with my family.


We have visited the zoo many times, but never for the holiday lights. We were so surprised as we drove into the parking lot to see the zoo illuminated by thousands of beautiful lights. As we approached the entrance my family and I were greeted by Frosty the Snowman! Christmas music was everywhere. It was very welcoming and we could not wait to get inside and check out all the displays.

We were pleasantly surprised to find out that the zoo was not only a feast for the eyes, but many of the animals were there as well! We were able to view the wolves, monkeys, a cow, pig, chickens, and many more animals. We also spotted many lights that were animal shaped! My favorites were the elephants and giraffe lights. My daughter loved the peacock lights! We each had our favorite.My son liked ALL of them!

After our chilly walk was over, my children enjoyed a ride on the Merry Christmas Go Round and then we warmed up with some nice hot cocoa. Oh, yes, I almost forgot: Santa was there! What a perk! Lights, Zoo Animals, Merry Go Round, Hot Cocoa and Santa- What else could you really ask for to make the night more perfect? By the way, the admission is free. but the zoo is collecting non-perishables as donations. What a great idea!
